An Introduction to HYENA THE Hermit
​hello, my name is Hyena Homo Erectus… aka hyena the hermit. i am a birmingham(UK) based practitioner, born and bred.

hyena the hermit is my professional alias and it is not only representative of myself personally as a socially anxious hermit in the contemporary arts scene, but as a figure with anti-art principles who doesn’t want to be viewed as an artist.
in accordance with my religion as a Satanist, my practice is very imitatively focused on studying/commentating on societal issues in order to further my fascination in the study of New Age thinking and alternative theory.
as an alternative individual, it is a personal obsession of mine to study it’s overt dichotomy to mainstream conventionalised opinion; especially within the realm of public interaction/intervention within my practice and representing my ideology as an openly laveyan satanist in relation to contemporary ideologies and public opinion.

the main subjects of my studies revolve around new Age liberalism, alternative identities/principles, nietzschean individualism, freudian sociology and outcast culture in post-Christian western society. in short, i am fascinated by niche cultures and underling issues within the human condition, and the self within contemporary and historical contexts respectively.

i am conceptually inspired in my process by theorists such as aristotle, Jean Jacque rousseau, friedrich nietzsche, and sigmund freud. they are all key examples within my work for their theories relating to the ego, the id and the social.

my practical work is based primarily in my lifelong obsession with analogue expressionistic painting, illustration and material exploration. There is also an applied principle to make work cheaply yet with the intent to produce statement pieces on a student budget that represent my views unapologetically.
